Excellent Marketing Strategy!
While the launch event of the new OnePlus 6T was about to take place on 30th October, 2018, Xiaomi marketing team had other marketing strategies in mind. There were two marketing strategies undertaken by them which were terribly and undoubtedly on the mark.
Firstly at the launch event, which was taking place at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi where they installed this huge advertisement at the entrance of the event. Have a look!
On the very day, Xiaomi launched a new smart phone device POCO F1 which they claim to be the flagship killer, a direct one to one challenge to the new OnePlus on the market.
Just look at their brand mantra “DO THE MA+H” and notice the Plus logo instead of T which is clearly taking a dig at the price rupees 20,999 of Poco as compared to rupees 37,999 of OnePlus 6T. By the way, at the time of this ad, the price was not revealed but it was obvious to be rupees 31,000 or more so you get the smartness.
The second, better, and more hilarious part, when the Launch Event was on the urge of completion selected few were given an envelope that read “DO THE MA+H” and inside that envelope was a Casio Calculator! Damn! That must've hurt now!
They did not stop here and took this entire strategy to twitter also. OnePlus has this tag line of “Never Settle”.
Xiaomi further extended it to “Never Settle for Overpriced”! Marketing people at Xiaomi have got some serious skills.
